My ball landed in a divot in the fairway. Can I move it?
No penalty, but no relief either. A divot hole is a normal part of the course — you must play the ball as it lies under Rule 9.1. However, if your club's Local Rules include "preferred lies" or "lift, clean and place," you may be entitled to relief. Check your scorecard.
RULE 9.1 · BALL PLAYED AS IT LIES
No penalty. Since the 2019 rules update, accidentally moving your ball on the putting green carries no penalty — simply replace it on its original spot under Rule 13.1d.
